We drift away into that beautiful space between between wakefulness and slumber. The place with unbridled potential.

An immersive multi-channel audio and light experience for intimate spaces.

Based on the rhythms of traditional song and dance, this work looks to help viewers enter into theta-state. This state is often associated with deep creativity and the ability to manifest emotions and visions. It’s also the state that we fall into right before we fall asleep at night.

By setting this piece in real world sounds to begin with, listeners are able to enter the space, and get comfortable before the rhythmic sounds are introduced. Once the rhythmic sounds are introduced, they play at a specific tempo that can start to encourage that waking-dream state in the listener.

The underlying structure that allows us to traverse is based on two core tenets. The first is creating a safe space through community. More than half of our time together will be spent creating a shared container for play. This sense of a tribe will allow us to feel safe when we explore inwards. We will know that this group of people has our backs, and if anything comes up that is troubling we can face it with our community behind us.

The second tenet is based on our brains' natural tendency to synchronize with external pattern based stimuli. Our brainwaves tend to operate at specific frequencies depending on what activity we are engaging in (i.e. waking consciousness, sleep, deep sleep, etc). When we are introduced to rhythmic stimuli at certain frequencies our brains start to work towards matching that frequency, allowing us to enter differing states of consciousness. The sound work that I will be bringing is based on this understanding.

With these two tenets firmly in lock, we will then dive into ourselves fully. The supporting structure is there for you to have your own unique experience.

Performed at small intimate settings in Brooklyn, NY. Currently looking for new performance/installation spaces.
