Music for Tennis Balls
Examining expected results using mundane objects
This custom composition partnered with Christine Rose's choreography to understand how our expectations are both met and left unsatiated. Christine used the miming of throwing and catching of a tennis ball, followed by using an actual tennis ball to see how our expectations matched the reality of an object.
Earl created the custom composition using found sounds and objects throughout the performance venue, leaving enough space in the music for the dancers to play. The three sections of the piece are linked to the three heights at which the balls were dropped from.
